I just attended a webinar by James Ready, CTO of MontaVista Linux (MVL).
Naturally it was all about Linux, MVL, Linux, MVL and Eclipse (actually more about MVL’s add-on module for Eclipse).

Digital Signage Software and LinuxMay 1st, 2007I just attended a webinar by James Ready, CTO of MontaVista Linux (MVL). Put rich media content on a screen in public view while 3k miles awayMarch 12th, 2007I agree with a post on Frank Addante’s FounderBlog that says that a start-up company must be best at something. “..startup companies ..can seemingly do “anything” because they are so flexible and agile. ..Bottom line is that you have to do it. Pick something, stick to it and be best. Period.” Another one of his posts [referred to an interesting material off Sequoia Capital’s website and] suggested among important elements of sustainable companies the following: “Clarity of Purpose. Summarize the company’s business on the back of a business card.” Both recommendations appealed with importance and urgency of an immediate action item. So, I looked through the meeting notes by zoning and planning committees. Engineering projects around East Brunswick, NJ needed plenty of variance hearings (for approval of exceptions from the rules). I was particularly interested in those projects that had something to do with signage installed in public view: on the external walls and in front of the buildings. Image as in “Imagination.”February 3rd, 2007Now, I simply can’t resist. Alas! This post has nothing to do with digital signage. It has little to do with computer technology either. (Although, thank you, slideshare.com and tata_helena!) I want to be drinking the same drinks that the designer(s) of the following creative series had. New release + first beta-clientJanuary 20th, 2007Kudos to SignInsight team: release of our software suite Vuxel Ver.1[.6.0.2] happened on January 20, 2007 just as was planned! Syndicator - application for aggregating pre-existing media objects in a coherent rich media presentation and for publishing such content Workspace - web-app for scheduling playback of content on remote Player stations, etc. Architecture at high-level is traditional for the field. Platform of choice: MS.NET for starters. Also, I just finished installation of digital signage installation at a beta-client site. This one used projection [vs. an LCD screen]. Mechanical part of installation was fairly tricky, but everything worked out well so far. Beta-trial is scheduled to be one month long. I will at least take a photo and post it here on the blog. Ideally, setting up a webcam. [At least one of our competitors includes videocameras by default for visual monitoring if a particular screen is up and running or down.] But I’ll start with a photo.. should have made a photo tonight.. Kudos to SignInsight team! G’night. Computing Platform Shift with a Firm DeadlineJanuary 16th, 2007Oooh..aaaah. I have a good helping of ice cream poured over with generous amount of flavorful Armenian brandy. Essay “World Domination 201″ by Eric Steven Raymond and Rob Landley is focused on a desktop computing platform shift in the making. It argues that Throne of Dominating Operating System is about to be up for taking by any of the three contenders: Microsoft Windows, Apple MacOS X and Linux. This essay is worth reading even if you never held a motherboard in your hands. Catching upJanuary 11th, 2007I am guilty as charged of skipping posting messages to blog. The past few days had been a whirlpool full of events sending me back and forth between New York and New Jersey. That’s it, I’m done with excuses and come back to blog. E.g. January 9th. Fastforward straight to 7pm: The Great Hall of Cooper Union University filled with an upbeat, energetic, mostly young, somewhat cocky crowd. About 400 people got together as an audience to listen to 5-6 people having “5 minutes each to demo something cool” plus 2 minutes individual Q&A sessions. Another 5-6 people will have a chance to get in the limelight next month. This was NY Tech Meetup event in action. Anyone has a chance to be heard sooner or later, but… Demo should better be _really_ cool, as the “New York’s tech community (geeks, investors, entrepreneurs, hackers, etc)” are fun, but hardly forgiving crowd. Greetings!December 29th, 2006Dear Friends and Visitors, Here We Are. SignInsight.com broke out of its shell and stepped out in sunlight. You might notice “slight imperfections” here and there, but they are, naturally, the signs of handcrafted workmanship and lively personality of this “newborn.” |
